History
Solemnly opened on June 8, 1930, on the 110th anniversary of the composer's birthday with a large crowd of people. At the opening ceremonies, a choir of several thousand singers and a brass band performed “Gaude Mater Polonia” and “Morning Song” by Moniuszko. Funds for the construction of the monument of more than 20 thousand zlotys were collected in the form of voluntary donations from residents of the Silesian Voivodeship
In September 1939, after the occupation of Upper Silesia by Germany, the monument was removed from the pedestal and destroyed. Reconstruction was carried out in 1955. For the restoration of the monument Moniuszko was again collected 17,000 zlotys. The second grand opening took place on September 20, 1959.
