Biography
Born into a family of wealthy peasants. He studied at the school for a very short time and was expelled from there because of an inability to learn. He began to study again from 1803 after the parting words of a Catholic priest, who proposed that he become a priest in the future; At first I studied with great difficulty, but in the end I was able to get an education. In October 1805 he entered the seminary, in 1816 he was ordained a priest, at the end of October of that year he was appointed pastor in the remote village of La Valla, where, amazed by the illiteracy of the population regarding the foundations of the Catholic faith, he decided to create a religious brotherhood that was engaged in would be the spread of education. The Brotherhood was founded in 1817, a year later a school was opened under his auspices. Subsequently, the fraternity founded by him was engaged in active missionary activity in the French colonies in Oceania.
Praise
On May 29, 1955, he was consecrated as blessed by Pope Pius XII and on April 18, 1999, as a saint by Pope John Paul II .
