Pierce Street ( born Pearse Street , Irish. Sráid an Phiarsaigh ) is one of the longest streets in Dublin , named after the Irish revolutionaries, the Pierce brothers, Patrick and William , who were born here. Originally called Moss Lane, then Great Brunswick Street [1] .
The western end of the street intersects with College Street near Townsend Street. Trinity College here forms the south side of the street, and there is a police station on the north side. Continuing eastwards, Pierce Street intersects Tara Street near the fire station and hotel. The DART line crosses Pierce Street near St. Mark’s Church , to the east of it is the former concert hall [2] [3] , where on May 8, 1899, the first performance of William B. Yeats ’s play “Countess Kathlin” took place [4] On May 16, 1904, writer James Joyce received a vocal award from Feis Ceoil [5] . House number 43 on Pierce Street was previously a commercial school [6] , at the intersection with Lombard Street - a bank and pub, at the intersection with Westland Row - Pierce railway station (previously - Westland Row Station) and opposite it - Goldsmith- hall.
Further east, there is a public library on the street, on the ground floor of which there is a city archive , after which Pierce Street crosses residential quarters, Pier Square Park and reaches the intersection with Mecken Street, not far from the Grand Canal dock .
