Biography
In 1987 in Neschö , vocalist / bassist Tobias “Tobbe” Fischer, guitarists Andreas Tyrone Svensson, who took the pseudonym “Dregen”, Johan Blomkvist and drummer Peder Karlsson formed the band Tyrant, who played heavy metal [1] All the participants were school friends and their age did not exceed 15 years. Tyrant played several shows at local clubs and in 1989 recorded a raw demo. Soon Tobbe was replaced by Nick Borg, who took on the role of vocalist and rhythm guitarist, and Blomkvist switched to bass. In the same year, Tyrant changed their name to Backyard Babies [1] and in 1990 recorded a six-song demo. In 1991, another Bite & Chew demo was released, which allowed the group to move to a new level: a video was shot on the song “God's Favorite”, and “Something to Swallow” was re-released on the mini-album of the same name. During this period, Backyard Babies get their own sound, their songs are a mixture of hard rock and garage punk interspersed with blues and mucus rock. After releasing Something to Swallow, the band embarks on a national tour of Sweden.
In 1993, Backyard Babies signed a contract with the Swedish label Megarock Records . In 1994, he released the debut album Diesel and Power . After a joint tour with Demolition 23 , consisting of former members of Hanoi Rocks, and a short tour as headliners in 1995 , during which new songs were played, which remained unreleased, the group takes a vacation for an indefinite time.
In the same 1994, Dregen, together with Entombed drummer Nick Andersson, created the band The Hellacopters , which plays garage rock , in which Andersson is the guitarist and main vocalist. Debut album The Hellacopters Supershitty to the Max! Released in 1996 wins the Swedish Grammy Award. [2] In the summer of 1997, The Hellacopters warm up Kiss during their Scandinavian part of the tour. [3] And in October of that year, Payin 'the Dues released their second album.
At the end of 1997, Dregen decides to quit The Hellacopters and focus entirely on Backyard Babies. [4] Staying on friendly terms with former Hellacopters colleagues.
In 1998, Backyard Babies released their second album, Total 13 , which received good reviews and won the Swedish Grammy.
In 1999, Dregen, Nikke Andersson and the frontman of the British band The Wildhearts Ginger decided to create a side project Supershit 666 . In the same year, their mini-album Super $ hit 666 was released , in the recordings of which members of the Backyard Babies Nike Borg and Peder Karlsson participated. Supershit 666 did not give a single concert due to the busy schedule of all its participants.
In 2001, the album Backyard Babies Making Enemies is Good was released , again received a Grammy. The band goes on tour and warms up AC / DC during the European part of their tour. [5] After the release of Stockholm Syndrome , People Like People Like People Like Us , Backyard Babies and Them XX , which summarizes the band’s 20-year career, Backyard Babies went on an anniversary tour in 2010 and then took indefinite leave. [6]
In May 2011, Dregen joined Michael Monroe 's group, replacing Ginger. [7]
In July 2011, Dregen began work on his first solo album. [8]
The pre-release single “Just Like That” was released on September 22, 2013 , and the album Dregen was released on Universal Music via September 25, 2013, and Nika Andersson helped him record it. In November 2013, the second album single “Flat Tire on a Muddy Road” was released. In the fall of 2013, Dregen released the autobiographical book Dregen . [9]
In December 2013, Dregen went on a tour in support of the album, at some performances of which Nick-Andersson was his co-headliner with his project Imperial State Electric, which also released a new album. In this regard, in the group of Michael Monroe, he will be replaced by Rich Jones from the groups Amen and The Black Halos. However, Dregen gives several appearances as a member of the Monroe group and several at his opening act. [10]
In May 2014 , Backyard Babies announced that they were going to the studio to record new material.
