Vladimir Pokrovsky was born on July 22, 1918 in the village of Sloboda (now the Dzerzhinsky district of the Kaluga region ). He graduated from eight classes of high school and the Leningrad Maritime College. In 1937, Pokrovsky was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1940, he graduated from the Yeisk Naval Aviation School of Pilots [1] .

By May 1943, Captain Vladimir Pokrovsky commanded a unit of the 2nd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 6th Fighter Aviation Brigade of the Northern Fleet Air Force. By that time, he had made 350 sorties, took part in 60 air battles, shooting down 11 enemy aircraft in person and 7 more as part of the group [2] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 24, 1943, Captain Vladimir Pokrovsky was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 1736 [1] .

Soon he was recalled from the front and until the end of the war he served in training courses for the flight crew. After the war, Pokrovsky continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1954, he graduated from the Air Force Academy . In 1956, with the rank of Colonel Guard, Pokrovsky was sacked. He lived in St. Petersburg .

He died on March 22, 1998, was buried at the Serafimovsky cemetery in St. Petersburg [1] .

Rewards

He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .

Memory

In honor of Pokrovsky installed his bust in Severomorsk [1] .
