Biography
Mikhail Podshibyakin was born on June 5, 1916 in the village of Malaya Shishovka (now - the Volovsky district of the Tula region ). After graduating from junior high school he worked on a collective farm . In 1937, Podshibyakin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1939, he graduated from advanced training courses for command personnel. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . Since April 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By September 1943, Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Podshibyakin commanded the battery of the 372nd Infantry Regiment of the 218th Infantry Division of the 47th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 29, 1943, Podshibyakin’s battery as part of the advance group crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Pekari, Kanevsky District, Cherkasy Region of the Ukrainian SSR, and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore, repelling a large number of German counterattacks. In those battles, the battery destroyed 3 enemy tanks, one of them, personally standing up for the gun, knocked out Podshybyakin. He himself was wounded, but continued to fight [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944 for “courage, bravery and heroism shown in the struggle against the German invaders,” Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Podshibyakin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 3898 [ 1] .
After the war, Podshybyakin continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1946, he graduated from the Higher Officer Artillery School. In 1960, with the rank of Major, Podshybyakin was sacked. He lived and worked in Bogoroditsk . He died on July 20, 1967 [1] .
He was also awarded three orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
