Sports career

In September 1906, Theo and his younger brother Arnold became members of the VVA Football Club [2] [3] . At that time they lived in the western part of Amsterdam in the area of ​​the Da Kostagracht channel . The brothers began to play for the club in the championship among students in the city of Amsterdam [4] . A year later, Theo got into the second reserve team of the BBA [5] , and already at the age of 17 he made his debut in the first team as a midfielder.

At the end of April 1913, Hautman Sr. tried his hand at another Asterdam team - Ajax [6] . He played in a friendly match against “Quick” from Nijmegen , but did not stay in the team and continued to play for the BBA. Nevertheless, in October of that year he moved to Ajax [7] [8] . For the first time after the transition, he played on November 9 in a friendly match with Quick [9] . The meeting ended in a draw - 1: 1.

Soon Theo was transferred to the third composition of Ajax, for which at that time Wim Boecker and Andre de Crauiff played [10] . Three months later, Houtman made his debut in the championship of the Netherlands . This happened on March 8, 1914 in a guest game against the club VOK [11] . He played as a striker and in the first half opened an account, however, the home team were able to equalize and win with a score of 2: 1 [12] [13] . In October 1914, Theo returned to the VBA club [14] , without becoming a player in the Ajax base.

Personal life

Theo Hautman was born on January 18, 1892 in Amsterdam, in the family of confectioner [15] Adrianus Wilhelmus Hautman and his wife Wilhelmina Elizabeth Bakker. He was the second child in a family of three. He had an older sister, Sebastian Wilhelmina, and a younger brother, Arnoldus Johannes. Their father was from Rotterdam , and their mother from Teal .

Theo married at the age of twenty-five. His chosen one was the 26-year-old Elizabeth Beck, a native of Amsterdam. Their marriage was registered on August 30, 1917 in Amsterdam [16] . In September 1919, their daughter was born.

Houtman died in May 1963, at the age of 71. [17]
