Biography
Born around 1460 in Nooseley, Lancashire . The eldest son of Thomas Stanley , 1st Earl of Derby, and his first wife, Eleanor Neville, daughter of Richard Neville , 5th Earl of Salisbury.
In 1475 he was consecrated by the English king Edward IV to the Knights of the Order of the Bath . In 1485 - constable in the castles of Pontefract and Narsboro.
In the same 1485, George Stanlith was present at the battle of Bosworth , being held hostage by King Richard III due to the actions of his father.
In 1486 - constable of Wicklow Castle and Justiciary of the Lancaster Duchy . In 1487, George Stanley took part in the Battle of Stoke Field . In the same year he was knighted by the Order of the Garter and became secret adviser.
Family and Children
Wife: since 1482, Joan Le Strange (c. 1460 - 1514 ), 9th Baroness Strange of Nokin, daughter of John Le Strange , 8th Baron Strange of Nokin, and Jacketta Woodville (daughter of Richard Woodville, 1st Earl of Rivers , and Jacket of Luxembourg). Children:

- Thomas Stanley ( 1485 - 1521 ), 2nd Earl of Derby and 1st Lord of Maine (1504-1521)
- James Stanley (1486–1562), knight, founder of the Stanley branch of Bickersteif, from whom came Edward Stanley, 11th Earl of Derby , and his descendants
