Deryugin, Alexander Alexandrovich (philologist)

In 1946 he graduated from the secondary school of Mozhga. ^[one]

In 1951 he graduated from the classical department of Kazan State University . ^[one]

From 1951 to 1954 he taught Latin at the Izhevsk State Medical Institute , where in 1953 he became head of the Department of Foreign Languages. ^[one]

In 1954 - 1957 he studied at the graduate school in classical philology at Leningrad State University. ^[one]

Since February 1958, he taught Latin and ancient literature at the Department of Foreign Literature and Classical Languages ​​at the Saratov State University . ^[one]

On January 9, 1964, at Leningrad State University, under the leadership of the largest specialist in ancient literature in the USSR I.M. Tronsky, he brilliantly defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of philological sciences on the topic “The language of Quintus Ennius and his place in the history of the Latin literary language”. ^[one]

In 1966 - 1969 - Deputy Dean for correspondence and evening education at Saratov State University . ^[one]

In 1969 - 1978 - Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Romano-Germanic Philology of Saratov State University . ^[one]

In 1988, at Leningrad State University, he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philology on the topic “V. K. Trediakovsky-translator. The Formation of the Classical Translation in Russia ”by presenting the monograph of the same name. ^[one]

A. A. Deryugin studied the Latin language of the archaic period and the study of the language of Ennius , Aktion and Pakuvia . He conducted a thorough study of extant excerpts from the works of these authors. A. A. Deryugin writes works on Latin pronunciation, the formation of the Latin literary language of the epic and tragedy. He well studied the connections of Russian literature of the 18th-19th centuries with ancient literature, studied the translations of Homer , Virgil , Ovid , made by V.K. Trediakovsky and V.A. Zhukovsky , V.V. Kapnist and M.V. Lomonosov , and traced the assimilation of Russian poetry antique metric forms, the development of metric rules. Particular attention was paid to the description of the translation technique of V. A. Trediakovsky by the example of his translations of Telemachis and Theoptia. A. A. Deryugin repeatedly participated as a speaker at scientific conferences with reports on the influence of ancient authors on the work of Russian poets of the 18th-19th centuries. ^[one]

In the textbook “Latin Language” developed in collaboration with L. M. Lukyanova, points of contact between Latin and Ancient Greek , Old Slavonic, and Russian were first indicated. When presenting grammar in this textbook, the common origin of the forms and cases of their similar development were traced. When considering Roman versification, the established exposition of the texts is supplemented by a comparison of the Roman metric with the Russian one, as well as information about the fate of antique poetry sizes in Russian poetry is added. ^[one]

Candidate of Philological Sciences, professor of the Russian Language Department of YSPU N.N. Anikina, attributed the advantages of the textbook to A. A. Deryugin that he “is compact, the material in it is presented briefly, but at the same time it covers all the grammar and phonetics. For a short course, this is enough . ” She also noted that in the textbook “a very good selection of selected texts by Latin authors: prose, poetry. There are Latin texts by Russian authors. ”Anikin sees the drawback of the textbook in that“ not all cases have longitude and brevity, which are very important for stress, but this is not so scary under the guidance of a teacher . ” ^[one]
