Shesifron Shestakova

Shestakron Shestakov [1] ( Latin Sceliphron shestakovi ) is a rare species of burrowing wasps ( Sphecidae ). Central Asia and Kazakhstan . Included in the Red Book of Kazakhstan [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] and Uzbekistan .

Central Asian endemic . Kazakhstan (30 km south of Lenger, low mountains of the Karzhantau ridge), Turkmenistan (Mary), Uzbekistan ( Samarkand , foothills of the Turkestan ridge , Sidjak , low mountains of the Karzhantau ridge). Oases , gorges in the lowlands, valleys [1] [6] .

Description

The wasps reach a size of 15 to 17 mm. The body is black with a yellow pattern. Nests in aboveground clay nests. Larvae presumably, like other species of their kind, feed on paralyzed spiders. The species was first described in 1928 by the Soviet entomologist V. V. Gussakovsky and named after Professor Andrei Valentinovich Shestakov, a specialist in wasps (who until his death in 1933 headed the Department of Zoology at the Yaroslavl Pedagogical Institute ) [6] [7] .
