Biography
Ivan Plyakin was born in 1915 at the Romantsy farm [1] . After graduating from five grades of the school, he worked in agriculture. In 1936-1938 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1941, Plyakin was re-drafted into the army. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. In 1942, Plyakin graduated from junior lieutenant courses [2] .
By June 1944, Captain Ivan Plyakin commanded a mortar company of the 199th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 67th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR . On June 24, 1944, the company Plyakina crossed the Western Dvina in the area of the villages of Bui and Dvorishche of the Beshenkovichi district and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead, repelling three counterattacks. On June 25, 1944, Plyakin drowned in the Western Dvina during the crossing. He was buried on the left bank of the Western Dvina in the vicinity of the village of Labeyki, Shumilinsky district, Vitebsk region of Belarus [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1944 for captain Ivan Plyakin posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for the "exemplary performance of command missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard. He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , Alexander Nevsky and Red Star [2] .
