Biography
Representative of the Stuart Dynasty [1] . The eldest son of King of Scotland Robert III Stuart ( 1337 - 1406 ) and Anabella Drummond (c. 1350 - 1401 ), daughter of Sir John Drummond Stobhollsky [1] . The elder brother of the king of Scotland, James I Stuart ( 1394 - 1437 ).
Since 1390, David Stewart was considered the heir to the Scottish throne [1] . Since 1399 - regent of the kingdom, since King Robert III was in a state of "bodily weakness" [1] . His regency fell on a difficult time of internal unrest and military conflicts with England [1] . Entered the struggle with his uncle Robert Stuart, 1st Duke of Albany , the previous regent of the kingdom [1] .
In February 1402, during his trip to St. Andrus, David Stewart, Duke of Rothsey, was captured by his uncle Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany . At first, the Duke of Albany imprisoned his nephew at St. Andrews Castle , and then transferred him to Falkland Castle in Fife County.
On March 26, 1402, the 23-year-old David Stewart, Duke of Rothsey, died in prison under unclear circumstances, and may have been killed by order of the Duke of Albany. [1]
Family
He was married to Marjorie Douglas (c. 1377-1421) [1] , daughter of Archibald Douglas the Ferocious, 3rd Earl of Douglas and Joanna de Moravia. Marriage is childless.
