Biography
In 1931–1935 he studied at the Stockholm Conservatory, receiving a diploma of choirmaster and organist; studied the composition in the same place with Ernst Elberg and Melkher Melhers , drawing from the first taste for counterpoint , and the second - an interest in French music, especially to Maurice Ravel . By Koch’s own admission, Dmitri Shostakovich (whose author’s first piano concerto , he heard, along with the opera “ Katerina Izmailova ”, during a trip to Leningrad in 1934) and Bela Bartok (touring in the same Stockholm) [2] . In 1936-1938 He continued his education in Berlin and Paris, including with Paul Höffer (composition), Clemens Krauss (conducting) and Claudio Arrau (piano), on his return to Sweden he privately perfected himself as a conductor under the direction of Tours Mann .
In 1940 he debuted as a conductor. In 1939-1975 he taught at the private music school of Karl Wolfart , from 1953 - also at the Higher Music School (from 1968 professor) in Stockholm. One of the students is Arne Mellnes .
Among his compositions are six symphonies, 5 ballets, 12 Scandinavian dances. Compose music almost until the last years of life.
