Biography

Lorenzo Sabatini was born in Bologna, studied under Prospero Fontana , who was his teacher and co-author; was a friend of Orazio Samaccini. His style was also influenced by Giorgio Vasari and the Emilian mannerism of Parmigianino .

In 1565, he worked in the workshop of Giorgio Vasari in Florence, where he was elected a member of the Academy.

Between 1566 and 1573 he lived in Bologna [7] , where he painted the walls of several churches, including Santa Maria delle Grazie, Chiesa della Morte, San Martino Maggiore and San Giacomo Maggiore.

In 1573 he moved to Rome to work under the leadership of Vasari in the Capella Paolina (with Federico Zuccharo ) and Sala Regia of the Vatican, where he accepted many of the stylistic features of the Raphael school and where he created, perhaps his most famous painting, “The Triumph of Faith over Infidelity ". After the death of Vasari in 1574, Gregory XIII appointed Sabatini the superintendent of work in the Vatican - he retained this position until his untimely death.

Lorenzo Sabatini died in the city of Rome in 1577. Among his students were engravers Giulio Antonio Bonasone and artist of Flemish origin Denis Calvert .
