History
At its present location, the village of Islamovo was founded around 1820 .
There are several versions regarding the foundation of the village of Islamovo (now the Upper Kurp). According to one of them, the aul was founded by the governor Musa Islamov. According to the legends, for faithful long-term service to Uzden 1st degree Uzdam, the tsarist administration granted a piece of land between the Kurp and Kurpug rivers for its settlement with its subjects and the construction of a post to control the approaches to the Georgian Military Highway. From the memorandum of Major Yakub Shardanov to the commander of the Caucasian line in 1839, it follows that "from the Asay river, beyond the Keskem river, down to Sunzha to Ashkel", the steppe belonged to the "Uzden of the Akhlov family - Inarokov, Islamov, Beshtokov and Mudemirova Ast - "Khaptsev, Abaev, Azapshev, Idarov, Bolatov ...".
On January 21, 1866, a meeting of the commission on personal and land rights of the local population of the Terek region took place. Having discussed the issue of the even settlement of villages between Terek and Kurp , and the deployment of all the Malokabardins from the site of the princes Bekovich-Cherkassky (lying east of the Kurp river), it was determined: to add the villages of Inal Inokrokov and Beshtokov to the village of Akhlovo, and the village of Islamovo and Inul Elamovo - aul Elamovo. 70 yards.
In the same year, residents of the aul of Elmurza Inarokov were settled near the village of Islamovo and included in its structure. Prior to this, the village of Bolshoi Inarokovo was located near the river Psidah. And on the map of Malaya Kabarda, compiled in 1744 by the surveyor S. Chichagov, Inarokovo was indicated in the upper reaches of the Sunzha River.
In 1920 , with the final establishment of Soviet power in Kabarda, by the decision of the Revolutionary Committee of the Nalchik District, Islamovo, like other Kabardian settlements, was renamed due to the presence of princely and noble families in their names. As a result, the village received its new name - Upper Kurp.
At the beginning of July 1929, speeches by the peasants of the Upper Kurp against the events of Soviet power began. On July 4, 1929, despite the religious prohibitions of the government, the inhabitants of the village took the oath on the Qur'an ( Kabard. Cherk. Islamey Thieryu ). On August 6, an open revolt and disobedience of the villagers at a public gathering began, where there was an attack on government officials - Kalmykov , Beslaneyev, Raev. On October 14, 1929, by a resolution of the college of the OGPU, 35 residents of the village were sentenced to capital punishment - execution. Two of them, former red partisans Maskhud Tsirkhov and Askhad Dobagov, were replaced by 10 years of imprisonment in the camp [4] .
During the Great Patriotic War , in November 1942, the village was occupied by German troops. In December of the same year, one of the most bloody battles in the territory of the KBASSR - the Battle of Kurp heights - took place northeast of the village. During this battle, the offensive of German troops on the territory of the KBASSR was suspended and a large-scale liberation of its territories from fascist invaders began [5] . In memory of those who died in the battles during the liberation of the village and the villagers who died on the war fronts, monuments were erected in the village. The battle for the Kurp heights is devoted to several exhibitions in various military historical museums of the country.
