Biography
Ivan Piyavchik was born on February 1, 1913 in the village of Zhilintsy (now - the Yarmolinetsky district of the Khmelnitsky region of Ukraine ). After graduating from high school, he worked on a collective farm , entered the agricultural technical school. In 1932, Leech was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Demobilized in 1934, he lived and worked in Vladivostok . In 1941, Leech was re-drafted into the army. He graduated from political courses and artillery courses. Since January 1943 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By January 1945, Captain Ivan Piyavchik commanded the battery of the 369th Guards Self-propelled Artillery Regiment of the 9th Guards Tank Corps of the 2nd Guards Tank Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . On January 15, 1945, Piyavchik’s battery broke through the German defenses from the Magnushevsky bridgehead and, crossing the Pilitsa River, continued the offensive in a north-westerly direction. On January 16, 1945, she took an active part in the battles for the liberation of Gruec and Zhirarduv , and on the night of January 17-18 she was one of the first to enter Sokhachev , where she fought for two days, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945 for the "courage and heroism shown in the Wisla-Oder operation" of the guard, Captain Ivan Piyavchik was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 5757 [1] .
On January 31, 1945, the Leech was seriously injured in battle. After the war, he continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1946, Piyavchik graduated from the Leningrad School of Armored Forces. In 1963, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked first in Kaunas , then in Khmelnitsky . He died on June 20, 2002, was buried on the Walk of Fame of the Khmelnitsky city cemetery [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
