Biography
Mikhail Pichugin was born on September 25, 1925 in the village of Rogachi (now - Danilovsky district of the Volgograd region ). After finishing seven classes of the school he worked on a collective farm . In 1943, Pichugin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since 1944 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By January 1945, Senior Sergeant Mikhail Pichugin was a radio operator and machine gunner of the 108th Tank Brigade ( 9th Panzer Corps , 1st Belorussian Front ). He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . On January 29, 1945, the Pichugin’s crew crossed the Oder in the area of the Oderek settlement (now Tsiganitsa south of Sulekhuv ) and took an active part in the battles to capture and hold the bridgehead, repelling German counterattacks for nine days, holding out until the main crossings [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, Senior Sergeant Mikhail Pichugin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Pichugin continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1947 he graduated from the Syzran Tank School, in 1948 - the Kiev Red Banner United School of Self-propelled Artillery. In 1976, with the rank of colonel, Pichugin was sacked. He lived and worked in Zhitomir [1] .
Rewards
He was also awarded orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, a number of medals [1] .
