"Unsuitable for dating" ( English. Undateable ) - American comedy television series, released in the offseason on NBC , as part of the American television season 2013-14 years [1] . The premiere took place on May 29, 2014 [2] . The multi-chamber comedy was created by Adam Schtikkel based on the book Ellen Rakiten and Ann Coyle “Unliable for Dating: 311 acts of guys guaranteed to deprive them of dates or sex” ( eng. Undateable: 311 ) [3] [4] [5] .

July 31, 2014 "Unsuitable for dates" was extended for the second season [6] . On May 8, 2015, the channel extended the series for the third season, all episodes of which will be filmed live [7] .

In May 2016, NBC closed the series after three seasons [8] .

Content

Story

Danny Burton - 30-year-old carefree free guy, all friends who have long been in a serious relationship. When his last bachelor friend moves in to marry, Danny begins to search for a new roommate. They are Justin, the owner of the Bruises Bar in Ferndale , Detroit’s metropolitan area. Justin and his friends — Nerd Bersky, the eccentric Shelley and the recently gay brett -off comedian, have certain qualities that make them “unsuitable for dating.” While Danny himself enjoys being in bed with women, he is not able or simply unwilling to associate himself with any of them for a long time. Danny's attractive sister, Lesley, has similar fears of becoming "unfit", since she is 34 years old and divorced.

Production

NBC ordered the script from Bill Lawrence in October 2012 [5] [9] . The selection of actors for the pilot series began in early 2013: in February Brent Morin and Rick Glassman joined the project, and in March Bianca Kailich and Chris D'Iliaa [10] [11] [12] [13] joined the project. Also in March, Matthew Wilkus was approved for the role of Bratt, a gay Justin friend [14] . Initially, Eli Michalka was approved for the role of Maddy, a waitress at Justin's Bar and later his girlfriend, but she left the project as early as April 2013 and was replaced by Brigha Heelen as a guest star, whose character looked like Nikki [15] [16] .

In May 2013, NBC ordered the first season of the television series [17] . After the series was ordered, Matthew Wilcas left the project and David Finn was invited to his role as Bratt. [18] When the full seasons of “Unsuitable for Dating” and “ Lower Floor ” , in which Hilan was in the lead role, were ordered, Megan Park was to replace Hilan in the role of Nikki [19] . However, in September of the same year, the producers arranged the filming schedule of the two TV shows so that Hilen could appear in the Unsuitable for Dating as a minor character of Nikki, and eventually she replaced Park [20] .

In March 2014, Lawrence, Maureen, Glassman, Fanches and D'Ilaya set off to a comedy promo tour of 8 cities for promotional purposes [21] [22] [23] .

Criticism

"Unsuitable for dating" was met with mixed and negative reviews from critics, but the audience warmly greeted the series. On the Metacritic review aggregator site, he received a score of 50 points out of 100, based on 19 reviews, and a user rating of 7.1 points based on 30 reviews [24] . 38% of the “fresh” (positive) critics have the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator on the other aggregator site , but the general comment reads: “In many ways, devoid of humor and originality, ” Unsuitable for dating ”has been greatly overvalued.” Despite the critics' reviews, the show received 89% of positive ratings among users [25] .

Danny's neighbor marries a room, and therefore moves in, forcing him to look for a new one. He meets a promising candidate, a bar owner named Justin, and they quickly find a common language. Danny is trying to teach Justin the art of dating women, and first he offers him and his friends, Biersky, Shelley, and Bratt, to go to a wine tasting party that his sister, Lesley, organizes. The next day, Justin begins to boast that he slept with a woman from a party, but it turns out to be Lesley. Later, Danny learns from Lesley that she was sleeping with Justin in the literal sense, that is, they had no sex.

Knowing that Justin likes Nikki, Danny steals his phone and writes Nikki SMS with a proposal to go to the movies. Justin believes that Danny does not understand the meaning of friendship, and tells him that he and Borsky are "trouser friends" (once Justin spilled a drink on Borsky's pants, and immediately gave him his own as a sign of friendship). Meanwhile, Danny's dubious advice given by Biersky - when meeting girls, it doesn't really work at all when Biersky meets a girl in her house.

After Danny convinces Justin that he is in Nikki's “friendship zone”, Justin tries to reveal his feelings for her. He learns from Nikki that she is interested in a more serious relationship than just friendship, with someone, but this someone is Danny. To prove that he is a good friend, Danny tricks Justin into telling him about her feelings for Nikki while she is listening to Justin in the office all this time. Meanwhile, Leslie quarrels with Shelly over her words about Detroit.

Sleeping with Sabrina, fellow student of Leslie, who returned to the city to get a doctoral degree at the University of Michigan, Danny feels for the first time a real connection with a woman. However, Sabrina pushes Danny away, using his own method, and avoids his attempts to schedule a second date. And Justin, who is already in a serious relationship with Nikki, feels obliged to give love advice to Danny. Meanwhile, Bratt believes that his coming-out has influenced his friendship with Justin. When Justin denies this, Bratt invites him to prove it in a very strange way.

Justin in a conversation with Danny admits that he loves Nicky, not noticing that she was standing behind him. Then Justin tells her this straight in the face, but she responds with a cold “cool”. Danny advises Justin to be indifferent, which should make Nicky to him, but it turns out quite the opposite. In the end, Nikki reciprocates with Justin, explaining to him that she was afraid to say this for the first time, because she had to leave for some time to look after her sick mother. In the meantime, the rest of the company of friends notices that Bersky very many times "accidentally" touches Lesley.

Danny convinces Bratt to invite a hot gay electrician named Steve, who is working on lighting the bar, for a date. When Steve refuses - for Bratt it's like a blow. But the situation worsens even more when Brett finds out that Justin is happy about Steve’s refusal because it proves that Danny was wrong. Meanwhile, Lesley and Sabrina are teaching Justin how best to have phone sex with Nikki, who is away.

Nikki returns to the city for the weekend, and so she and Justin instantly retreat to the bedroom. Justin is not sure that he is good enough for Nikki, especially since she spends a lot of time away from him, so he reluctantly uses the “sex pose” that Danny invented. Nikki is delighted, but Justin is furious to hear that Danny has told Nikki about his authorship of the pose. Meanwhile, Shelly is trying to make Biersky cry when he finds out that he has not cried since he was five years old.

Leslie is at a loss due to the arrival of her ex-husband Julius ( Josh Hopkins ), who came to sign a divorce paper. Danny hides the fact that he is still friends with Julius, which does not approve of Justin, while Julius does not fascinate him with his singing. Danny and Justin decide to apologize to Leslie, but they find Julius in her house and realize that they had an affair. Meanwhile, Shelley discovers an amazing ability to control the dreams of his friends.

Sabrina concludes with Shelly that he cannot even hold out for two days in her place, which leads to bad consequences for him.

Danny's jaw drops after a pretty girl asks him about Justin. It turns out that Justin's loyalty to Nikki makes him irresistible. Justin is delighted with Nikki's arrival in Detroit, but this joy becomes short-lived when she tells him about the work found in Lansing, near her mother's house. She offers to take a break, leaving Justin with a broken heart. In the meantime, a group of friends finds out their rating on a dating site and comes as a shock when they learn that someone has put Borsky 9.9 points.
