Ravine ( Arabat strait , ukr. Promoina , ukr. Arabatska duct ) - the strait between the island of Kryachin and the Arabat spit of the Crimea peninsula [1] . The strait links the Sivash Bay with the rest of the Sea of Azov [2] .

The width of the strait is on average about 100 m, in the area of the connection with the Sea of Azov the strait expands to 150 m. The length is 6 km.
For a long time, there was no permanent water exchange between the Sivash and the Sea of Azov at the strait site, and water exchange was carried out through the Strait of Tonky [3] . Then, in the case of a rise above 1.6 m above the zero of the gauging station, the water began to flood the ravine at the site of the future strait [3] . For a long time, the railroad that existed on the Arabatskaya Strelka [4] [5] [6] [7] removed sand for construction to Genichesk and other cities of Ukraine [8] [9] . In March 1970, during a sea storm with a wind speed of 30-35 m / s, the northern part of the spit was blurred [8] [9] . Through the strait formed, the waters of the Sea of Azov began to flow into the Sivash Bay [8] [9] .
During the civil war in Russia , the front line between the Reds and the Whites for a long time passed along the ravine [10]
There are no settlements on the shore of the strait [1] .
