Virgin Jane , or simply Virgin , is an American television series based on the eponymous Venezuelan telenovela, which launched on The CW on October 13, 2014. The plot focuses on a religious Latin American young woman who becomes a victim of accidental artificial insemination during a visit to a gynecologist [1] .

The series received a significant amount of praise from critics, becoming not only the highest-rated show in the history of the small channel The CW, but was also noted as one of the best news of the television season 2014-15 [2] [3] . In 2014, the project received an award from the American Institute of Motion Picture Arts as one of the top ten TV shows of the year [4] . At the 72nd Golden Globe Award Ceremony, the project was nominated in the categories “ Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical ” and “ Best Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical ” ( Gina Rodriguez ) [5] . The series was the first project in the history of the small channel The CW, which was marked by any major awards and nominations [6] . Rodriguez eventually won the award [7] . Also in 2015, the series was awarded the Peabody Prize [8] . The series also received three nominations for the " Selection of Television Critics " award; for best comedy, comedian (Rodriguez) and supporting actor ( Jaime Camil ) [9] , and three for the Association of Television Critics Award ; for the best new program, achievements in comedy, and personal achievements in comedy (Rodriguez) [10] .
On April 2, 2018, the series was extended for the fifth season [11] , which will be the last [12] .

Production
The series was developed by Jenny Snyder Urman and produced by CBS Television Studios [13] . The main role was given to the actress of the soap opera “ Daring and Beautiful ” Gina Rodriguez , and the veterans of the soap genre were also approved for the rest [14] . May 8, 2014, The CW ordered the shooting of the first season of the series for broadcast in the television season 2014-15 [15] . It was later announced that the show would be broadcast on Mondays [16] , starting October 13, 2014 [17] .
October 21, 2014, after the broadcast of only two episodes, the series was extended for a full season [18] . On January 11, 2015, the channel extended the series for the second season [19] , which started on October 19, 2015 [20] . March 11, 2016 the series was extended for the third season [21] . On January 8, 2017, the series was extended for the fourth season [22] [23] .
