Victor Babin ( December 13, 1908 , Moscow - March 1, 1972, USA) is an American musician, pianist, composer and teacher , who received international recognition in a duet with his wife Vitya Vronsky (Victoria Mikhailovna Vronskaya).

Biography

Graduate of the Riga Conservatory (1928) in the class of Arvid Daugulis . In 1931 he graduated from the Higher School of Music in Berlin . Apprentice Arthur Schnabel . Among his students was Babin's future wife, Victoria Vronskaya, whom he met in 1933, and they soon got married [1] .

In 1929 he debuted as a pianist . In the early 1930s he performed solo concerts and accompanied by leading symphony orchestras and conductors of Europe, recorded on the radio in the Baltic countries , Poland , Czechoslovakia , the UK and others. Since 1932 he has performed in a piano duet with V. Wronsky. [2] . In 1937 he made his debut in the United States , performed in New York in a duet with his wife V. Wronsky.

In 1938, Victor Babin and Victoria Vronskaya immigrated to the United States . In the late 1940s he toured a lot in the countries of North and South America, in Europe and Israel. The American audience gained wide fame thanks to the recordings of piano music by Sergei Rachmaninov , who became their friend and mentor. Their recordings were released by RCA Victor, Columbia, Decca and EMI . Despite the interruption of creative activity associated with World War II, during which Babin served in the US Armed Forces, the duo still managed to perform more than 1,200 concerts in North America alone.

Leaving performing activities, the couple began teaching. In 1961, Victor Babin received the post of director of the Cleveland Institute of Music ( English Cleveland Institute of Music ), where his wife Victoria headed the piano department.

Creativity

Victor Babin is the author of more than 50 musical compositions published in Europe, Great Britain, and the USA. Among them are concerts for piano and 2 pianos, violins with an orchestra, chamber and instrumental ensembles, including strings: a quartet, piano trio, sonata for cello and piano, a cycle of songs for voice and piano “Beloved Stranger”.

He also owns the arrangement for 2 pianos “6 Sonatas for Trio” by I. S. Bach; “Costume of Parsley” by I.F. Stravinsky; romances of S.V. Rachmaninov and others

Newsweek magazine called the Wronsky Piano duo Babin the most brilliant duet of our generation . [3]
