Lincoln County is located in the United States , South Dakota . It was officially formed on December 30, 1867 . As of 2010 , the population was 44,828 people. Got its name in honor of the eponymous district in Maine .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,499 km², of which 1,497 km² are land and 1.0 km² or 0.09% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , 24,131 residents of 8,782 households and 6,665 families live in the okrug. The population density is 16 people per km ². There are 9 131 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of 6 buildings per km². Racial composition of the population: white - 97.55%, African - Americans - 0.34%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.53%, Asians - 0.46%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 0.29 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.81%. Hispanics accounted for 0.70% of the population.
Of the total number of households , 41.00% are children under the age of 18, 66.50% of households are married couples living together, 6.70% of households are single women without a spouse, 24.10% of households households are not related to families , 19.50% of households consist of one person, 8.00% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.72 people and the average family size is 3.14 people.
The age structure of the district: 29.70% under the age of 18, 7.60% from 18 to 24, 31.90% from 25 to 44, 20.40% from 45 to 64, and 10.40% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.80 males . For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.50 males .
