Guatemalan Sign Language ( Guatemalan Sign Language, Lensegua ; Spanish: Lenguaje de señas guatemalteco , Lengua de señas de Guatemala ) is a national sign language that is spoken among the deaf [1] living in Guatemala . The first language dictionary was published in 2000.

Guatemalan sign language differs from other sign languages used in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries, as well as from the Yucatec sign language , which is used among the Quiche people living in rural Guatemala.
Many deaf people learn Guatemalan sign language in their teens or later, after the initial exposure to Spanish or another local language. Guatemalan sign language is also studied by some hearing people, most often relatives of the deaf [2] .
