Biography
By his own admission: “My family was not a believer. But I studied in the ninth and tenth grades, the flame of faith in me flashed through me - contrary to the atheistic ideology, which was still actively promoted then. I felt that there are some spiritual, higher powers, that there is God. I remember when I first went to the temple, I had an unusual feeling: as if I were in my beloved house, which everyone aspires to. My soul immediately penetrated this. Later I was baptized, I began to attend church services regularly. Soon he became a sexton, a psalm-reader ” [1] .
In 1991 he graduated from Batumi 2nd Secondary School. In 1991-1996 he studied at the Faculty of Economics of Batumi State University.
Since 1994, he served as an elementary and a reader in the Batumi Cathedral.
On April 8, 1996, he received monastic tonsure with the name Ephraim in honor of the Monk Ephraim the Syrian . On May 6 of the same year, the bishop of Batumi and Shchalt, Job, ordained him deacon. In November 1996, he succeeded Bishop Job to the Diocese of Urbnis.
April 7, 1997 was ordained a priest. In 1997-1998 he served in the Itrii Assumption Monastery.
In 1998-2004 he served in the Karelian Assumption Church. On December 25, 2000, Catholicos Patriarch Elijah II was elevated to the rank of hegumen.
In 2001-2004, he was also the rector in the Karelian church gymnasium of St. George the Svyatogorets.
From 2004 to 2006 he reigned at the Kozifsky monastery.
On December 21, 2006, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Archimandrite Ephraim was elected Bishop of Bolnisi. On December 31 of the same year, his hierarchal ordination took place in the patriarchal cathedral of Svetitskhoveli .
On October 6, 2012, he was elevated to the rank of archbishop.
