Getting
- To obtain anhydrous chloride, the reaction of lutetium oxide and carbon tetrachloride is used :
- Crystalline hydrate is obtained by dissolving lutetium oxide in hydrochloric acid:
- The crystal hydrate is dehydrated by gradual heating with ammonium chloride (to prevent hydrolysis ):
