Biography
Born in the city of Frunze (now Bishkek , Kyrgyzstan ) [1] .
After graduating from 10 classes of the Dzhambul secondary school as an external student, he entered the Tashkent Medical Institute at the Faculty of Sanitary and Hygiene, graduated in 1952 [1] .
In March 1953, he graduated from the courses of health organizers at the Central Institute of Advanced Medical Studies , then was sent to work at the Ministry of Health of the USSR as a senior inspector of planning and financial management.
In 1954 he entered the residency at the Central Institute of Advanced Medical Studies, and the following year - in graduate school at the department of communal hygiene of this institute. At the same time he defended his thesis on the topic “Pollution of atmospheric air with gasoline vapor and its maximum permissible concentration” [1] .
In 1960, he was appointed Deputy Head of the External Relations Department of the USSR Ministry of Health, and in 1962 he became Deputy Minister of Health of the RSFSR — Chief Medical Officer of the RSFSR [1] .
In 1964, the USSR Ministry of Health recommended Izmerov to work as the World Health Organization (WHO) as Assistant Director-General. He held this position for 7 years [1] .
In September 1971, he returned to the USSR , was elected Director of the Institute of Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Diseases [2] of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (from March 2017 - FSBI "Research Institute of Occupational Medicine named after academician NF Izmerov"). NF Izmerova carried out a lot of work to improve the structure of the institute, the Allied Problem Commission “Scientific bases of occupational health and occupational pathology”, which he himself became the chairman of [1] .
In 1973, Izmerov was defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences. In 1977 he was awarded the title of professor [1] . Corresponding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1980).
In 1973 he published the monograph “Fight against atmospheric air pollution in the USSR”, which was translated into English, French, and Spanish. A total of 325 Izmerov's works published both in the USSR and abroad were published, including 20 monographs, textbooks, manuals, reference books [1] .
In 1990, he became Vice-Chairman of the WHO Special Commission on Health and the Environment, he actively participated in the preparation of the report “Our Planet - Our Health”, which was presented at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 [ 1] .
Created a school of hygienists. Under his leadership and during his consultations, 27 candidates and 32 doctors of sciences were trained [1] .
In 1990 he was elected, and in 1995 and 2001 he was reelected as academician-secretary of the Department of Preventive Medicine of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences [1] .
He was a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, academician of the International Academy of Higher Education, Russian Ecological Academy, Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences. Entered the Higher Ecological Council, was the chairman of the section “Human Ecology” of the State Duma of the Russian Federation , the chairman of the Scientific Council “Medical and environmental problems of workers' health” under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences [1] .
He was the editor-in-chief of the journal Labor Medicine and Industrial Ecology, the editor-in-chief of the section Occupational Hygiene, and a member of the editorial board of the Medical Courier magazine.
From 1999 to 2000 - President of the Russian Medical Society [1] .
From 2002 to 2015, he was the organizer and the permanent President of the Russian National Congress with international participation “PROFESSION and HEALTH”.
He was married to Izmerovoy Natalia Ivanovna - a dermatologist, doctor of medical sciences, professor. He has two daughters, one grandson and four granddaughters.
He died on December 23, 2016 in Moscow [3] . He was buried at Troekurovsky cemetery (section 25) [1] .
By the order of the Director of the FANO of Russia of 30.3.2017 No. 142 of the Research Institute of Occupational Medicine , the name of academician Izmerov was given. [four]
