At the Summer Olympics in Helsinki (1952) was the fourth in its semi-finals, while three athletes were selected for the final. In 1953, for the first time, he won the 110 m race with obstacles in the Balkan Games. Then - until 1961, he won nine titles in a row. At the European Championships in Bern (1954) was the fourth with a score of 14.7 seconds.
At the Olympic Games in Melbourne (1956) took fifth place (14.5 seconds). Two years later, at the European Championships Stockholm (1958), showing 14.1 seconds, became the silver medalist. In the same year he set a personal record - 13.8 seconds. At his third Olympiad - in Rome (1960) was eliminated in the semi-final stage. At the European Championship in Belgrade (1962) was the seventh.
