He graduated from the seven-year school and agricultural engineering. In 1938 he traveled to Komsomol in Moscow , worked as a turner at the plant, then in a river shipping company.
In July 1942, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In the battles of World War II from December 1942. He fought on the Voronezh, South-West and 3rd Ukrainian fronts.
In the winter offensive battles of 1942–1943, guards foreman L. I. Rybachkovsky, the commander of the machine-gun crew, passed over 350 kilometers through the fields of Ukraine . He smashed the enemy under Liski, Stary Oskol and Akhtyrka, steadfastly defended the approaches to Kharkov from the south at the Taranovka-Serpent line.
The 78th Guards Rifle Regiment, in which he served, saddled the railroad and highway leading to Kharkov, and, taking an advantageous position on the Seversky Donets River, closed the way for the city to the fascists. For more than twenty days, the calculation of L. I. Rybachkovsky, interacting with direct-impact weapons, actively participated in repelling the ten attacks of the Nazis.
The fascists threw 30 tanks and up to two infantry battalions into one of such attacks. Artillery bombardment of the LI Rybachkovsky bunker was destroyed. He himself was wounded, but continued to fight, watering the Nazis with the fire of his machine gun. The violent attack of the enemy was repelled. The regiment kept the defensive line.
In late September 1943, in pursuit of the defeated parts of the Nazis, the 25th Guards Rifle Division advanced to the Dnieper south of Dnipropetrovsk. The monotonous steppe landscape did not please the eyes of the warriors. Small but deep ravines were the only shelter for the troops on their way to the Dnieper. And then there was a wide water surface. You can not swim it. Longboats, boats and canoes, preserved by the inhabitants of the Dnieper villages, became a great help for our army.
The regiment commander took care of the careful selection of fighters for the landing squad. It was formed mainly from former sailors. The regiment's machine gunner LI Rybachkovsky was included in the squad.
The night of September 26, 1943. Quiet on the right and left banks. Only frequent flashes of lighting rockets indicate the anxiety and nervousness of the Nazis. Time after midnight. The squad is ready for landing. Given last orders. And here the boats and the boats are quickly gaining speed. The regimental artillery group is waiting for a signal to strike the coastal positions of the Nazis.
The radio station at the command post keeps in continuous communication with the troop unit. Slowly stretches time. The right bank flared in the glow of lighting flares. Machine guns chirped. The airborne detachment, having taken the coast, immediately turned left, deploying along the way into battle order for the attack.
LI Rybachkovsky quickly climbed onto a steeper, threw a grenade straight in front of him, shot from a machine gun. When the detachment went on the attack, L. I. Rybachkovsky picked up the machine gun and rushed forward, thickly watering the Nazis with lead.
Part of the detachment headed by the commander began to bypass the height of 130 from the flank. When the Nazis hit machine gun fire on the advancing fighters, the guards sergeant L. L. Rybachkovsky rushed forward to the enemy trench. Within seconds, two grenade explosions were heard from there, the enemy machine guns fell silent.
By morning, a red flag was flying at the height. Here the detachment commander gave LI Rybachkovsky a new task to the machine-gun crew. It was necessary to ambush to beat the enemy’s counterattacking chains. As the commander assumed, in the morning the Nazis launched a counterattack. Our artillery fired at the enemy. Reflecting the onslaught of the fascists, the armored personnel carriers shot down and set on fire two tanks.
LI Rybachkovsky, watching the battle, let the Nazis go a short distance and squinted to a dozen fascists. Replacing the disc, he again fell to the machine gun and gave a long queue. The chain of attackers lay down. At this point, the squad leader led the fighters into a counterattack. Throwing grenades at the nazis, scribbling machine guns and machine guns, the guards crushed and turned the enemy to flight. So the first counterattack was repulsed. There were four of them in a day. Guardsmen resist. By the morning of the next day, the entire regiment forced the Dnieper and entrenched on the captured bridgehead.
