Biography
Born January 15, 1913 in St. Petersburg in a working class family. Russian. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1942. He graduated from the Polytechnic Institute in Leningrad.
He worked as a design engineer at PKTI mechanical engineering in Moscow .
In the Red Army since July 1941. Member of the Great Patriotic War since September 1941. He graduated from courses at the Military Engineering Academy.
The 236th engineer and engineer battalion under the command of Captain Aleksey Smirnov, providing combat operations for rifle formations, crossed 10 rivers on June 17, 1944, built 43 wooden bridges, 1.5 kilometers of roads through swamps, checked 2371 kilometers of roads and removed more than 8 thousand enemy mines.
When crossing the Oder in April 1945, he personally led the crossing to the left bank of infantry and artillery.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945 for exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and courage and heroism shown to Captain Alexei Efimovich Smirnov, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .
After the war, captain A.E. Smirnov - in stock. He lived in the hero city of Moscow . He worked as a designer.
In 1954, A.E. Smirnov was awarded the Stalin Prize .
He died on February 20, 1997. He was buried in Moscow at the Vostryakovsky cemetery.
