Biography

Born on May 7, 1956 in the village of Ochkhamuri in the Kobulet district of Georgia .

Between 1976 and 1982 he studied at the Moscow Agricultural Institute , and in 1980-1982 - at the Moscow Law Institute.

In 1987-1990 he received a theological education at the Mtskheta Theological Seminary .

On March 16, 1989, he was ordained a deacon , and on April 26, he was ordained a priest. In 1995 he was elevated to the rank of archpriest .

On October 25, 1996, he was tonsured a monk with the name Anthony , the next day he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite , and on November 11, he was consecrated bishop of the newly established Van Diocese.

At one time, Vladyka himself was convicted and imprisoned, and in 1999–2000 he became chairman of the Department for Interaction with Prisoners of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

On May 19, 2002, he led the delegation of the Georgian Patriarchate at the consecration of the St. Petersburg Church in honor of the Shestakov Icon of the Mother of God - the church of the local Georgian community [1] .

He repeatedly visited the Stavropol diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church , which at that time united several regions of the North Caucasus.

January 4, 2004 was elevated to the rank of archbishop .

In March 2007 he accompanied the Patriarch-Catholicos Elijah II during his visit to Russia [2] ; visited the Luhsky Nikolo-Tikhonov monastery with a friendly visit to her abbot, hegumen Agafon (Chesnokov) , at the Bright Week of 2008.

June 2, 2010 was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan .
