Biography
He graduated from elementary school in Drušići, a gymnasium in Podgorica, a theological and teacher school in Cetinj and a theological faculty of the University of Belgrade .
As a soldier of the Montenegrin army, he took part in the Balkan and World War I.
On June 29, 1920, he was ordained to the rank of deacon , and on June 30 of the same year, to the rank of priest [1] , after which until 1930 he served as a parish priest.
He consistently obeyed the secretary of the Spiritual Court in the town of Štip (Macedonia), the church prosecutor in Skopje , the deputy bishop and the administrator of the patriarchal court in Belgrade .
On May 20, 1961, by decision of the Holy Bishops' Council, he was elected Metropolitan of Montenegro-Primorsky .
On June 24 of the same year, in the cathedral of Belgrade, he was consecrated bishop with the elevation to the rank of Metropolitan of Montenegro-Primorsky . The consecration was performed by: Patriarch of Serbia German , Metropolitan of Zagreb Damascene (Grdanichki) and Bishop of Banat Vissarion (Kostich) [2] .
Under him, in 1984, a new building was built for the metropolitan residence in the Cetinje Monastery , and the old one was used to expand the museum exposition of the Cetinje sacristy [3] [4] . Despite the strong pressure from the communist authorities, Metropolitan Daniel maintained order in church life, renovated many churches and monasteries, and opened a monastic school in the Ostrog monastery .
Despite the numerous protests of Metropolitan Daniel, on July 12, 1972, the chapel of St. Peter the Great was destroyed in Lovcen. As Metropolitan Amfilohij (Radović) noted: “The demonstrations that were organized in Montenegro during the communist time were directed against this metropolitan, because he defended the church of St. Peter in Lovcen from destruction and, therefore, opposed the violation of the will of Peter Petrovich Negosh” [5]
December 30, 1990 of his own free will, due to his advanced age, was put to rest.
He died on September 14, 1993 in Cetinje . He was buried in the Ostrog monastery.
