Botanical Description

Annual or perennial herbaceous plants without pubescence. Rhizome creeping, filiform. The stalk is straight or creeping, tetrahedral, smooth, pale green, sometimes with a red tint, (3) 10-30 (50) cm long. The leaves are opposite, oblong, elliptical or ovoid, tapering into the petiole, sharp, whole-edge, pale reddish-green, shiny, 6-30 mm long. Stipules small, warty.

The flowers are solitary, located in the axils of the leaves. Bracts 2. Four sepals , ovoid or short triangular, acute, 1.5-2 mm long, green, remain with the fruit. No petals . 4 stamens shorter than sepals. Four - ovary ovary . The column is threadlike; stigma capitate, bifid.

Fruit - oblong-obovate, quadrangular, multi-seeded, pale brown capsule , opens with holes in the upper part. Seeds are oblong, smooth, shiny, light brown, the seed is smooth.

Flowering in May β€” August (September).
