Matvey Nikolaevich Stakhiv ( Ukrainian ; November 30, 1895 , p. Beggar , the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , Austria-Hungary (now Zborovsky district , Ternopil region , Ukraine ) - June 2, 1978 , San Diego , California , USA ) - Ukrainian lawyer , sociologist and historian , social and political figure.

Biography

Petty Officer of the Ukrainian Galician Army .

In 1923 he graduated from the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague . He is an activist of the Ukrainian Socialist-Radical Party (USPP), the party’s chief secretary (1925-1939), a representative in the Socialist Workers' International , and an editor of the press organ of the Gromadsky Golos weekly. Actively engaged in educational activities and scientific work.

In 1924-1939 he lived in Lviv . He headed the Association of Peasant Unions. Director of the People’s University "Samoosvita", edited his publications.

Full member of the NTSH since 1942. Professor at the Ukrainian Free University and the Ukrainian Technical and Economic Institute in Munich , where he lectured on state law and administration.

In the fall of 1939 he emigrated. During emigration to Germany, he actively participated in the Ukrainian socialist movement, was a member of the UNRada . Since 1949 he lived in the USA; editor of the weekly Narodna Volya (1949-1971), chairman of the NTS in the USA (1969-1974), activist of the Ukrainian Committee at the US Congress and the World Congress of Ukrainians . Since 1965 - full member of the International Free Academy of Sciences ( Paris ).

Author of a number of popular brochures and journalistic works on political topics, on sociology and history. Scientific work, mainly in the field of the history of the Ukrainian national liberation movement, about the legal status of the Ukrainian state and political regimes in Ukraine until 1917
