Biography
Liu Bin was the son of Emperor Shun-di from the concubine Yu. In 144, the emperor felt sick, and appointed Liu Bin, who at that time was his only son, heir to the throne. A few months later, the emperor passed away, and the one-year-old Liu Bin became emperor; The Dowager Empress Liang became regent with him.
In fact, instead of the empress, her brother Liang Ji, who gained almost absolute power, began to rule. However, riots continued in the country; even the tomb of Emperor Shun-di was looted.
At the beginning of 145, the young Chun-di died. The Dowager Empress Liang initially wanted to keep his death a secret in order to have time to choose a successor, but then heeded the advice of official Li Gu and decided to announce the death of the emperor publicly and in accordance with all the rules. His male male relatives Liu Xuan (Tsinghe prince) and Liu Zuan (son of the Bohai prince) were called to the capital to select one of them as the new emperor. At court, the adult Liu Xuan was more liked, but Liang Ji preferred a young emperor who could be controlled, and therefore 7-year-old Liu Zuan was enthroned.
