Chadan ( Tuv. Chadaana - low shrub ) is a city (since 1945 ) in the Republic of Tuva of the Russian Federation . The administrative center of Dzun-Khemchik kozhuun and the urban settlement is the city ​​of Chadan .

Geography

It is located on the Chadan River (the right tributary of the Khemchik , the Yenisei basin), on the Kyzyl-Teeli highway (formerly A162), 220 km west of Kyzyl . 6 km west of the city to the A162 highway, the beginning of the Chadan - Handagayty highway (former A163) is adjacent.

Climate

History

In 1873, at the confluence of the Hondergey River into the Chadan River, the Aldyi-Khuree Buddhist monastery was founded. This year is considered the year the city was founded. Since 1923, the settlement at the monastery is known as Artaadyt. In January 1929, the Plenum of the Central Committee of the Tuva People's Revolutionary Party adopted anti-religious decrees - Aldy-Khuree or Nizhne-Chadansky Khuree was closed and destroyed in the 1930s. Since 1929, the settlement has been called Chadan.

In May 1945, Chadan received the status of a city and became the center of Dzun-Khemchik kozhuun. At that time, a coal deposit was discovered near the city and its development and opencast mining began.

Attractions

Branch of the Republican Museum of Local Lore Aldan Maadyr. In the city is the museum of Buyan Badirgy . On July 23, 2012, the Ustuu-Khuree Buddhist temple was reopened, which was restored with the support of the government, the public, and the Ustuu-Khuree international festival of live music and faith since 1999.
