History
The Smolensk Diocesan Gazette began to be published on the initiative of the rector of the Smolensk Theological Seminary Pavel (Lebedev . In 1864, at the request of the Smolensk and Dorogobuzh Bishop Anthony (Amphitheater), the Holy Synod approved the creation of a diocesan printed organ. The first issue was issued on January 1, 1865.
Each issue of the newspaper consisted of the “Official Department” and “Additions ...” (from 1868 - the “Unofficial Department”).
The official part contained government and local orders and news; in the unofficial - sermons, “words”, conversations and speeches, historical and statistical information about parishes, temples, monasteries and clergy of the diocese.
The editors were Pavel (Lebedev) (1865–1867), Archpriest Pavel Efimovich Obraztsov (1867, 1868), Archpriest Daniel Petrovich Lebedev (1882), Ivan Petrovich Speransky (1883–1901). In 1882 and 1883, together with D. P. Lebedev and I. P. Speransky, edited by Vedomosti, priest Ivan Aleksandrovich Moroshkin (1848 - 11.28.1914); in 1884–90, together with Speransky editor, was the candidate of theology, Sergei Alekseevich Solntsev (October 6, 1843–22.7.1891). In the XX century, the newspaper was edited: Nikolai Alexandrovich Vinogradsky (1901–1911), Nikolai Nikolaevich Sokolov (1911–1913), Nikolai Nikitich Redkov (1913–1916), Pyotr Alekseevich Cheltsov (1916–1917), Semyon Nikolayevich Sametsky.
At the beginning of the XX century, the circulation of the newspaper was 800 copies, of which about 660 were distributed by subscription within the diocese. The newspaper was published twice a month.
The last known number is dated December 11-20, 1918.
Since 1991, the Diocese of Smolensk again publishes a newspaper with the same name.
