Biography
He graduated from a real school in Kutna Hora , then - Czech Technical University . He traveled to Germany, in Hamburg , where he was hired as an architect, first met with samples of oriental art and for his whole life became a fan of Orientalism in architecture.
In 1873 he returned to Vienna and designed the Egyptian - Sudanese pavilion for the World Exhibition . Then, for a deeper study of oriental architecture and art, he went to Palestine and Egypt.
Since 1874, in Vienna, together with the architect J. Makhitka, he organized and managed his own architectural bureau. Since 1882 - inspector of public schools of the textile industry.
In 1885 he became the first director of the School of Applied Arts in Prague.
Among the famous works of F. Schmoranz are the main building of the sanatorium and the building of the Turkish hammam in the resort town of Trencianske Teplice .
In 1873, together with J. Makhitka, he designed the building of the school of applied art in Prague in the Neo - Renaissance style. Participating in the competition for the construction of the Prague National Museum, he was awarded the second prize.
The author of a dozen construction projects carried out throughout Europe and in a number of Czech cities.
The son of the architect and restorer Frantisek Schmorantz (elder) , brother of Gustav Schmoranz , theater figure, director, writer, translator, artist, director of the National Theater in Prague ..
Rewards
- In 1873 he was awarded the Austrian Order of Franz Joseph for his work,
