The Vilna Commonwealth of Poets is a Russian emigrant literary group operating in the city of Vilno from 1922 to 1939.
History
Initially, the organization acted since 1922 as a literary and artistic section as part of the Vilna Russian society. Since 1932, the literary and artistic group was headed by the poet Dorofei Bohan . On April 26, 1934, Dorofei Bohan announced the creation of a separate poetry group as part of the Literary and Artistic Group of the Vilna Russian Society. The first chairman of the Vilnius community of poets was the Russian singer Irina Farkovich, who published her first poems in 1932. Chrisanf Kozlovsky, who was chairman in the "Circle of Authors" at the Union of Russian Students at the University of Stefan Batory, was elected deputy chairman.
The poetic group included poets Paltiel Katsenelson , Maria Frumkina-Yudenich, Sigismund Polyansky, Vsevolod Baykin , Lev Shlosberg, Tamara Sokolova , R. Nikitin, N. Ermolovich, Temira Sasinovich, Ilya Petrov, Natalia Maksimova, A. Tychinsky, E. Shevtova and Sofia Chervyakovskaya.
In the fall of 1935, the Vilna Commonwealth of Poets initiated the creation of the Pushkin Committee in Vilna. In the same year, an editorial board was created, which was engaged in the publication of poetry collections. The editorial board included Vsevolod Baykin, Tamara Sokolova and Pantiel Kantselson.
The Vilna Commonwealth of Poets organized poetry evenings in the halls of the Vilna Russian Society, which were located on Mickiewicz Street, from 1936 on Dominican Street and from 1937 again on Miscavige Street. Weekly meetings have been organized on Mondays since 1935 and on Wednesdays since 1937. At these meetings, literary studies were conducted, during which the compositions of the group members were analyzed.
Since 1936, the group was headed by Sergey Nalyanch , who previously participated in the work of the Prague literary groups Daliborki and Sketa of the Poets. The activities of Sergei Nalyanch led to the separation of the group from the Vilna Russian society, after which Dorofei Bohan and his daughter Sofia Bohan-Savinkova disagreed with his activities. In contrast to the Veleno community of poets, Dorofei Bohan created the literary group Authors' Circle at the Vilna Russian Society.
In September 1937, the Vilnius Community of Poets published the only poetic collection of its members, which included 32 poems.
The activities of the Vilnius Poetry Community ceased in 1939 after Lithuania joined the Soviet Union .
