Biography
Gabriel Panteleev was born on June 26, 1923 in the village of Gavrilovka (now the Sokuluk district of Kyrgyzstan ). He graduated from ten classes of the school. In 1942 Panteleev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad , was wounded [1] .
By September 1943, Guard Lieutenant Gavriil Panteleev was a senior adjutant of the battalion of the 224th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 72nd Guards Rifle Division of the 7th Guards Army of the Steppe Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On the night of September 24–25, 1943, Panteleev was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Borodaevka of the Verkhnedneprovsky District of the Dnepropetrovsk Region of the Ukrainian SSR and conducted reconnaissance on the ground. He took an active part in the liberation of Borodaevka, personally destroying 2 firing points and capturing 6 enemy soldiers, he himself was wounded, but remained in service [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943, for “courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper and in fights on the bridgehead” of the guard, senior lieutenant Gavriil Panteleev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 3667 [1] .
In one of the subsequent battles Panteleev was seriously wounded. In 1944, he was demobilized due to injury. In 1949, Panteleev graduated from the Law Faculty of Moscow State University . Since 1958 he lived in Kursk , worked in local justice authorities. He died on September 30, 1979, was buried in the Officers' Cemetery of Kursk [1] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Panteleev, his bust was installed at the museum of the Kursk Regional Prosecutor’s Office [1] .
