Theodor Bibliandr ( German: Theodor Bibiliander ; 1505 , Bischofsell - September 26, 1564 , Zurich ) - Swiss orientalist , linguist .

The real surname is “Buchmann” ( German Buchmann ), whose Greekism is the pseudonym “Bibliandr”.

Biography

After studying at a Latin school in Zurich, he continued his education in 1526-1527 in Basel . Particular attention was paid to the study of classical and Semitic languages .

In 1527 - 1529 he was a teacher of rhetoric and Hebrew in Legnica .

In 1531 he returned to Zurich, where he became a professor of theology instead of the deceased Ulrich Zwingli .

As a linguist in 1543, Johann Opoorin prepared for publication the first printed publication of the Koran , based on the Latin translation of Robert Ketton ^[2] .

He was engaged in the interpretation of the Bible .
