Ray Tomlinson ( April 23, 1941 , , New York - March 5, 2016 [1] [2] [3] ) is an American engineer at the computer company Beranek and Newman; Cambridge , Mass .). Developed analog-to-digital hybrid speech synthesizers. He is the inventor of e-mail , which connected users of remote computers of the ARPANET network in 1971 . Added support of the e-mail service to the functionality of the network by selecting the @ ( at-sign ) symbol to indicate that mail addresses belong to specific hosts [4] . Developed TENEX software that allows computers to exchange text messages. In addition, he developed the program CPYNET, which allowed you to send files and ensure their safety.
