Description
Small ants, body length about 2 mm. Veils faint. Shoulder tubercles of pronotum and spaced hairs absent. Antennae 12-segmented, mandibular palp composed of 6 segments, and labial palpus of 4 segments. The scape of the antennae is shortened, not protruding beyond the occipital margin of the head. The petiol is triangular, low in profile. It differs from closely related species (for example, modern Tapinoma indicum and Tapinoma melanocephalum ) by a very short scapus: in all other males, they have a long scapus protruding beyond the posterior edge of the head. The species was first described in 2002 by the Russian worldmecologist Gennady Mikhailovich Dlussky ( Moscow State University , Moscow ) together with such new species as Dolichoderus zherichini , Tapinoma aberrans , Oligomyrmex nitidus , Oligomyrmex ucrainicus . The name of the taxon T. electrinum comes from the Greek word electrinum (amber) [1] [2] .
