American crime (television series)

American Crime is an American crime drama television series that premiered on March 5, 2015 on ABC . Creator - Oscar winner John Ridley , starring Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hatton . In the center of the plot of the first season is the small town of Modesto, California , in which there is an attack on a young couple of a mixed race. The case soon takes a national turn, fueling tensions due to racial and sexual discrimination [2] .

The series was greeted by critics with universal acclaim for its bold approach to storytelling, racial points of view and acting [3] . Many critics have noted American Crime as an innovative drama for broadcasting on broadcast television , which in terms of quality is able to compete with cable premium television projects [4] . On May 7, 2015, the series was extended for the second season [5] , which started on January 6, 2016. The season, also met with a host of positive reviews from critics, talks about a private high school in Indianapolis , a student who is a victim of sexual abuse by members of the basketball team. May 12, 2016 the series was extended for the third season [6] .

In 2015, the series was nominated in ten categories for an Emmy Award, including as “Best Series of Limited Broadcast Perspective,” all four acting categories and script (winning one statuette for best supporting actress ( Regina King )). At the 73rd Golden Globe Award Ceremony , American Crime was nominated in three categories.

On May 11, 2017, ABC closed the show after three seasons. [7]

Production

On October 24, 2013, it was announced that ABC bought the script for the pilot episode written by the author of the movie “ 12 Years a Slave, ” John Ridley [8] . The project was described as a legal drama based on racial and sexual discrimination. On January 14, 2014, the channel gave the green light to the shooting of the pilot episode, directed by Ridley [9] [10] .

Casting for the main roles began in February 2014. Elvis Nolasco and Caitlin Gerard became the first actors to receive regular roles in the pilot, February 14 [11] . A week later, Richard Cabral and Johnny Ortiz got roles in the pilot, and on March 3, Benito Martinez and W. Earl Brown became two more additions to the cast [12] [13] . On March 5, Timothy Hatton was approved for the main male role [14] , while Penelope Ann Miller signed up to play the mother of the wife of the murdered [15] . On March 7, Felicity Huffman completed the casting, taking the lead role, thereby returning to ABC two years after the completion of the show Desperate Housewives [16] [17] .

May 8, 2014, ABC ordered the shooting of the first season of the series for broadcast in the television season 2014-2015 [2] [18] .

The series started on Thursday, March 5, 2015, replacing the completed first season of the show " How to Avoid Punishment for Murder " [19] .
