Biography
The son of a Christian Democrat Ferdinando Skyola.
Mayor of the Empire ( Liguria ) in 1982-1983, 1990-1995.
In 1983, Skyola resigned as mayor, having been charged with attempting to bribe as part of an investigation into the abuse of the San Remo ( Empire Province in Liguria ) [1] .
He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1996 [2] , 2001 [3] , 2006 [4] from the Forward Party , Italy , from April 29, 2008 to March 14, 2013 - a deputy from the People of Freedom [5] . From July 11, 2006 to October 11, 2007 he headed the , after its reorganization from October 12, 2007 to April 28, 2008 - the [4] .
He served as Minister of the Interior in the second government of Berlusconi (June 10, 2001 - July 3, 2002), Minister of Actualization of Planning in the same government from 2003 to 2005 [6] .
Interior Minister Claudio Skyola was at the epicenter of public criticism after the death of police activist Carlo Giuliani at the hands of the police during the riots in Genoa on July 20, 2001 during a meeting of G8 leaders in the city. At a Senate hearing on February 21, 2002, Skyola stated that his words were misinterpreted and that he did not issue a police order for the use of firearms [7] . On July 4, 2002, Skyola resigned due to criticism of his abusive reaction to the murder in Bologna of government consultant Professor [8] .
Minister of Production in the Third Government of Berlusconi (2005-2006) [9] and Minister of Economic Development in the Fourth Government of Berlusconi (2008-2010) [10] .
By Presidential Decree of November 20, 2009, No. 1322 was awarded the Russian Order of Friendship "for his great contribution to the development of Russian-Italian economic relations" [11] .
Legal Prosecution
On May 4, 2010, he resigned from the post of Minister of Economic Development due to allegations of involvement in financial abuses in the allocation of contracts in preparation for the meeting of the G8 leaders in Perugia ( La Maddalena ) in 2009 [12] . As part of this case, in 2011, Skyola was charged with obtaining illegal financing after the payment by the entrepreneur Diego Anemone, employed in the construction business, of part of the cost of an apartment in Rome with an area of 210 square meters acquired by Skyola. On January 27, 2014, he was fully acquitted by the court. [13]
On May 8, 2014, he was arrested by employees of the in Reggio Calabria on charges of facilitating the concealment from justice of a former MP from the People of Liberty party , who is being investigated in connection with violations in the distribution of state contracts ( Matachen himself was then under arrest in Dubai , the question of his extradition to Italy was considered) [14] . A few days later, the investigating team brought Skyol with new charges: money laundering and communications with the ndrangeta . The newspaper la Repubblica announced the opening of a wide corruption network, which also involved European deputies [15] . On June 13, 2014, the Reggio Calabria transferred to house arrest [16] by a decision of the Tribunale del riesame of Reggio Calabria .
On May 12, 2015, the case against Skyola and former police chief , accused of involvement in the March 19, 2002 so-called “ new red brigades ” of Professor Marco Biaggi, was closed because the Minister of the Interior and the Chief of Police Knowing about the threats against him, they did not protect the professor [17] .
Return to the Empire
On June 11, 2018, he went to the mayoral elections of the Empire with the support of several initiative civilian lists and won them with a result of 35.3%, on June 24, he won the second round with a result of 52% of Luka Lunteri, a candidate for the center-right coalition [18] .

In one of the episodes of the satirical book of Leonardo Bozelli Nostradamus in signo Cancri published in 2010, there is the “Minister of Logistics of the Federal Policy” Claudio Skyola: after twenty-one days of the “riot” of the press for some reason, he resigns on July 27, 2018, stating that that it has nothing to do with government actions that provoked public condemnation, and does so solely as a sign of its consistency and out of unwillingness to impede the activities of the government [19] .
