Building and habitat
Representatives of this class of bryozoans are most often found in stagnant waters. They cover the stones, the lower part of the leaves of water lilies and egg capsules facing the water, as well as the branches of trees hanging from the water. Of the more than 5 thousand species of bryozoans known to science, only 74 are freshwater species, of which 20 live in Europe.
The skeleton of the representatives of mole rats, unlike marine bryozoans, consists not of limestone, but of chitin of various densities. In this regard, animal colonies can form crust-like or branched forms. In some cases, in a number of species of angiosperms, animal colonies may have lumpy masses weighing more than 1 kilogram. Animals are adapted to changing seasons. In autumn, they create statoblasts that persist for a long time, which allows them to safely endure cold winters.
