Leo (Master of Offices)

Leo ( lat. Leo ) - Roman politician of the second half of the IV century.

Master of Offices in 371 / 372-375 / 376

The lion came from Pannonia . Around 364, he was the head of the monetary allowance under the master of the cavalry of Dagalife and participated in organizing the elections to the emperors of Valentinian I. In 370, Leo was on the post of notary at the vicar of Rome Maximinus , to whom he was assigned for the trial of a number of senators. In the years 371 / 372-375 / 376 he held the position of Master of Foreign Affairs . In 374, Leo intrigued against Sextus Claudius Petronius Proba , who was then the prefect of Italy's praetorium, since he himself wanted to take his place. After the accession to the throne of Grazian, Leo, obviously, was dismissed.

Ammianus Marcellinus spoke negatively about Leo. In particular, he wrote that he

“Was engaged in the robbery of graves; this man’s brutal grin betrayed his cruelty, and no less than Maximin he longed for human blood ” [1] .
