Wasting Love

The single was recorded during the recording of the Fear of the Dark album in 1992 and is the third single released in support of the album. The single was sold on several media: a CD single and a 7-inch vinyl disc with various contents. A full CD maxi-single was released only in the Netherlands and the USA ; however, a 7-inch vinyl single was released in Spain [1]

A rock ballad, rare for the group as a whole, and so far the only power ballad tells about the love and life that were wasted on random connections. The song is a product of the work of Bruce Dickinson and Janick Gerce; the latter played a guitar solo in the song.

The group’s official video for the song is a video sequence of the group’s performance, interspersed with love scenes with the main character of the clip, a young man who stuffs the names of his lovers on the body, and by the end of the clip his body is completely filled with names.

Side B single

The maxi-single released on CD contains, in addition to Wasting Love, concert recordings of three songs of the group: Tailgunner (from the English - “Tail Gunner”), Holy Smoke (from the English - “Holy Smoke”) and The Assassin (from the English - " Assassin "). All songs are taken from No Prayer for the Dying and all recorded at Wembley on December 17, 1990.

The 7 "promotional singles, both on vinyl and on CD, contained two versions of the song: a radio version (shortened) and an album version. [2]

Envelope

On the cover of the single is a frame from the clip: a needle with mascara in the fingers and a chest of a young man, on which the name Sally is impaled.
