The battle at Ostervel village is a battle that took place on March 13, 1567 , traditionally symbolizing the beginning of the Netherlands revolution . The battle was fought in the area of the village of Ostervel, north of Antwerp . The Spanish regular army under the command of General de Beauvoir defeated the army of Calvinist rebels led by Jan de Marnix van Aldegonde. About 700-800 rebels died.
