He graduated from the Paris Conservatory , a student of Jean Martinon . He also studied under the supervision of Igor Markevich , Sergiu Celibidache and Franco Ferrara . In 1977, in England he was awarded the international scholarship for young conductors awarded by the Rupert Foundation, and in the same year he took the position of assistant conductor in the Paris Orchestra with Pierre Boulez . In 1983 - 1984 musical director of the Lorraine Philharmonic Orchestra.
Later he worked mainly in the countries of Asia and Africa. In 1986 - 1990 the first music director of the Taipei Experimental Symphony Orchestra , then performed in Cairo , Baghdad , Hanoi . At the same time, the guest appearance of Akoka with the Milan Symphony Orchestra made the Italian critic call the conductor “inventive and brilliant” [1] .
