Construction
After the separation of the Rosiu - Campo Grandi section from the Blue metro line, it was decided to extend the two lines formed to two major Lisbon stations. The green line goes to Cais do Sodre Station, the blue line to Santa Apolonia Station. Construction began back in 1997 , but proximity to the Tagus River negatively affected construction. Due to the high level of groundwater, construction was delayed for 10 years [1] .
Description
The architect of the station is Leopoldo di Almeida Rosa. Artist - Juan Rodrigues Vieira. The station is architecturally similar to the neighboring one, Terreiro do Pasu. Located parallel to the Santa Apolonia train station and has access to it. There is also an elevator for people with disabilities [2] .
Before descending to the platform, Juan Rodrigues Vieira posted a picture made of colored ceramic tiles, entitled "Tribute to the railroad." The painting is dedicated to the construction of the first Lisbon railway station in 1865 [2] .
